Delivery Maturity Assessment

An honest read of the system, not the people.

The problem

You have capable people. You have probably hired well, invested in them, and watched them work hard. And yet delivery feels slow, busy without being productive, bottlenecked in places nobody can quite point to. The instinct is to look at the teams and wonder what is wrong with them. In almost every organisation I have worked inside, that instinct is aimed at the wrong target.

The people are rarely the problem. The system around them, how work gets prioritised, funded, structured and governed, is what quietly holds them back, and when good people keep hitting the same walls they eventually leave and take their hard-won knowledge out the door with them.

The Delivery Maturity Assessment is an outside, expert read of that system.

It tells you what is actually slowing you down, where you sit against where you want to be, and what to do about it in priority order.

Who it is for?

This is built for a delivery or transformation director who owns the outcome and wants an honest diagnosis rather than reassurance.

It is for you if:

  • You have inherited or stood up a delivery function and need to know what you are really working with
  • Agile has been applied unevenly across teams after growth or reorganisation
  • Delivery feels slow or low-value despite genuinely good people
  • A training or “brilliant basics” request keeps surfacing when the real question is how the whole system is set up

It is not for you if you want a tool rollout, a certificate, or a report that confirms what you already believe. If you are looking for someone to tell the teams to try harder, I am the wrong person.

The assessment names systemic problems plainly, and that only helps if you are ready to act on what it finds.

What do you walk away with?

The honest picture

A findings report that tells you what is actually slowing delivery down, in your organisation's own words. The specific impediments named plainly, anchored with anonymised quotes from your own people, so the picture is hard to argue with.

A gap you can measure

A clear read of where you sit today against where you need to be, capability by capability. The gap stops being a feeling and becomes something you can measure, track, and take to your own leadership.

A plan you can run

A prioritised backlog of interventions, each marked tactical or strategic, so you act on the quick wins now and plan the structural work deliberately. Plus the conditions that have to hold for any of it to stick.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Step 1

Discovery

I interview your people one to one, from leadership through to delivery, and sit in on the real events where the system shows itself. People tell you very different things in a 1:1 than they do in a town hall.

Step 2

Analysis

Everything I hear gets mapped against the Six Enablers of Business Agility and plotted on a maturity model, so you get a whole-system view instead of a list of symptoms.

Step 3

Playback

You get the report, then I walk your leadership team through it in person, anchored with anonymised quotes so the room hears its own organisation talking.

Step 4

Interventions

You leave with an improvement backlog ordered by impact and appetite, plus the conditions that have to hold for it to stick. Sequenced and ready to run.

A clean way to start

The assessment is a fixed piece of work with a clear start and end. You get the honest read, the findings, and the plan, and you are under no obligation to do anything further with me.

Often the assessment is all someone needs. Sometimes it surfaces a bigger piece of work, and if it does, we scope that separately, on its own terms, at the point you actually want it. Either way you are never signing up to an open-ended engagement to get the value of the assessment.

Any questions?

If you are weighing this up, or your situation doesn’t fit the standard shape, let’s just talk first.

  • Maybe you are not sure the timing is right
  • Maybe your organisation is bigger or more tangled than the standard ten days assumes
  • Maybe you just want to understand how it would actually run

The assessment flexes. More people, more sites, or a more complex delivery landscape can mean a longer engagement, and we size that together before anything is agreed.

Just an honest conversation about what is going on and whether this is the right thing for you. No obligation.
